Understand what is. Discover what is possible.

Independent organisational and operational advisory for business owners facing important decisions, organisational challenges and change.

I find out what is really going on, what is possible and what it will take to get there. Then, if you decide to go ahead, I can help make it happen.

01

When an independent perspective can help

Every business develops its own ways of working. Over time, responsibilities, relationships and everyday decisions may evolve beyond the arrangements originally intended.

Understanding how the organisation actually functions can reveal both what needs attention and what could become possible.

Preparing for succession or leadership transition

What depends on the current owner or leader? What would others need to take responsibility? Organisational readiness matters alongside the legal and financial arrangements for continuity.

Growing beyond existing arrangements

Growth can place new demands on management, responsibilities and operations. Structures that once worked well may no longer support the business effectively.

Understanding persistent difficulties

Recurring problems, overlapping responsibilities or conflicting explanations can make it difficult to know where to act. An independent examination helps distinguish underlying causes from their symptoms.

Considering an acquisition or ownership change

Beyond the financial and legal picture, how does the business function? What capabilities, dependencies and operational risks could affect its future?

Preparing to implement change

A decision alone does not make change happen. People need clear responsibilities, appropriate authority and practical arrangements that allow the intended change to work.

Discovering unrealised possibilities

Not every organisation needs to be in difficulty to benefit from an independent perspective. Established ways of working can conceal opportunities as well as problems.

What might become possible if the organisation approached its capabilities, responsibilities or operations differently?

02

How I work

Understanding comes before recommendations. Implementation is a separate decision.

01

Understand

I examine how the organisation actually operates: its people, responsibilities, decisions, processes and the conditions affecting them.

The purpose is to distinguish observations from assumptions, explore underlying causes and make important uncertainties explicit.

02

Decide

I help you understand the available options, their implications and the changes they would require. You determine the direction and whether to proceed.

03

Make change work

If you decide to proceed, we agree separately on the implementation support needed.

This can include designing practical arrangements, supporting implementation, transferring responsibility and reviewing whether the changes work in practice.

The aim is to leave the organisation able to sustain and adapt the changes—not dependent on continued external support.

Assessment does not commit you to implementation

You can use the findings independently or with other advisers. Any further involvement by IOOA is a separate agreement.

Independent judgement

An organisation cannot make reliable decisions about its future without understanding its present reality.

My responsibility is to establish and communicate what the available evidence supports, including findings that may challenge existing assumptions or expectations.

Recommendations must follow from the best available understanding of the organisation’s reality, remain open to challenge and never be driven by a predetermined solution or an obligation to commission further services.

03

Experience behind the approach

The approach draws on my professional experience before establishing IOOA. These examples describe earlier work, not assignments undertaken under the IOOA name.

Reducing dependence on the owner

In an owner-led industrial organisation, I examined how management responsibilities, communication and decision-making depended on the owner.

I developed recommendations for organisational improvement and helped establish cross-functional arrangements intended to distribute responsibility more effectively.

The experience reinforced an important lesson: introducing new arrangements does not guarantee lasting change. What remains effective after implementation is as important as the initial result.

From fragmented information to an integrated operational process

During a major infrastructure project, I conceived and designed a new approach to contractual reporting and invoicing.

I assembled and led a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement the solution, connecting information from operational, contractual and financial processes.

The resulting system supported recurring invoicing and reporting and remained in use after responsibility was transferred to the organisation.

04

Working alongside professional advisers

IOOA provides complementary organisational and operational expertise where legal, financial or transaction-related decisions depend on how a business actually functions and what it is capable of achieving.

This can be relevant to succession, ownership transitions, growth and other significant business decisions.

My contribution does not replace legal or financial advice, or legal and financial due diligence. It adds an understanding of the organisation’s practical capabilities, dependencies and readiness for change.

I welcome conversations with advisers and organisations whose clients could benefit from this perspective.

05

About IOOA

IOOA stands for Independent Organisational & Operational Advisory.

IOOA is an independent, founder-led practice combining organisational analysis with practical support for change.

I work directly with business owners and management teams. My focus is on understanding their particular situation, making choices clearer and helping agreed changes work in practice.

The measure of success is what the organisation can achieve and sustain after my involvement—not how long it continues to need me.

Let’s discuss your situation

You may be facing an important decision, exploring a possibility or trying to understand a recurring difficulty.

An initial conversation can help establish whether my experience is relevant and what a useful next step might be.

If you advise or support businesses, we can also explore where our expertise could complement one another.
